The IG541 fire suppression system uses an IG541 mixed-gas extinguishing agent composed of three atmospheric gases—nitrogen (N2), argon (Ar), and carbon dioxide (CO2)—in proportions of 52% ± 4%, 40% ± 4%, and 8% +1%–0.0%, respectively. This extinguishing agent operates via a physical mechanism: it extinguishes fires by reducing the oxygen concentration in the air within the combustion zone. It is characterized by being colorless, odorless, non-toxic, non-corrosive, and non-polluting. Its ozone depletion potential (ODP) is zero, and its global warming potential (GWP) is also zero. As such, it is a green fire suppressant and an ideal replacement for halons.
